Dear friend Sneha,
Loving greetings (सप्रेम नमस्कार).
I received your letter. I was happy to read that your exams went well. Today I am going to tell you about our school trip, because I will always remember it.
Last Saturday our school trip went to see Raigad Fort. We set off by bus at six in the morning. On the way there was no end to the songs, antakshari and chatting. When we reached the foot of the fort, we went up by ropeway. Everyone was amazed by the view from the top: the Sahyadri mountains, the green valley and the patches of cloud. Our history teacher described the Maha Darwaja, the Raj Sadar and the samadhi of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a vivid way. The history we had read in our books seemed to come alive before our eyes.
In the afternoon we sat together and ate the lunch we had brought from home. On the way back we were all tired, but our hearts were full of joy. The trip was great fun with friends, and it also made us proud of our history. When you come to Pune in the holidays, let's both go to Raigad once again. Give my regards to uncle and aunty. Write back soon.
Your friend,
A.B.C.
Key points
- In a descriptive letter, events come in order: setting off, the journey, the place, the experience and the return.
- Describing scenes like the mountains, the valley and the clouds paints a picture for the reader.
- Saying what you learned from the trip and how you felt makes the letter more effective.
- If writing to a male friend, end with "तुझा मित्र"; to a female friend, "तुझी मैत्रीण".
