Official sources checked: 26 October 2026. This page is based on the Maharashtra Police website (mahapolice.gov.in): “Police Bharti 2024-25 – Instructions for Candidates” (revised, dated 12.11.2025), the Police Constable (Recruitment) Rules, 2011 (dated 16.06.2011) and the Amendment Rules, 2025 (dated 17.10.2025). When the next (2026) advertisement comes out, its rules are final.

Selection process in short

Police Shipai (Constable) selection has three stages:

  1. Online application – only on the official portal (policerecruitment2025.mahait.org).
  2. Physical test (ground test) – 50 marks. Only candidates who get at least 50% (25 marks) can go ahead.
  3. Written test – 100 marks. From the candidates who pass the physical test, in order of marks, candidates are called in the ratio 1:10 of the vacancies in each category.

The final merit list is made from physical + written marks together (150 marks). Document verification and medical test come after that.

The 4 written subjects (official list):

No.Subject (Marathi name)What comes (in short)
1Arithmetic (अंकगणित)Numbers, percentage, profit-loss, interest, average, ratio, time-work-speed, area
2General Knowledge & Current Affairs (सामान्य ज्ञान व चालू घडामोडी)Maharashtra & India history, geography, Constitution, police & laws, current affairs
3Intelligence Test / Reasoning (बुद्धिमत्ता चाचणी)Number/letter series, coding, blood relations, directions, ranking, clock-calendar
4Marathi Grammar (मराठी व्याकरण)Sandhi, parts of speech, vibhakti, tense, prayog, samas, alankar, idioms & proverbs
Note (unofficial / not confirmed): the official instructions do not give marks per subject. Past papers usually had about 25 questions (1 mark each) per subject, but this is not officially announced. We also did not find any mention of negative marking in the official instructions – always read the advertisement and the hall-ticket instructions.
Because the paper is in Marathi, learn the Marathi terms (शेकडेवारी = percentage, सरासरी = average, सरळव्याज = simple interest) even if you study in English.

(Transgender candidates take the test of the identity – male or female – chosen in the application.) The marks-per-timing tables are given in the recruitment rules and the advertisement.

The old 2011 rules had a 5 km / 3 km run, long jump, pull-ups and a 100-mark ground test. That has changed – the current recruitment uses the 50-mark test above.

How to prepare (simple 30-day plan)

  1. Days 1–10: Arithmetic and reasoning – 2 topics a day + 30 practice questions. Keep all formulas in one notebook.
  2. Days 11–20: Marathi grammar – vibhakti, samas, prayog and alankar first (they give sure marks).
  3. Days 21–27: GK – Maharashtra geography, history, Constitution, police and laws; 15 minutes of newspaper daily.
  4. Days 28–30: Full practice papers – 100 questions in 90 minutes. Do GK and Marathi first (fast), then maths and reasoning.
  5. Ground: keep running every day. If you get less than 25 in the physical test, you don't get a chance at the written test at all.
